Labor Day weekend we wanted to do something as a family as we don't get a lot of real "us" time. We decided to head up to the National Zoo.
Once again, per usual, we choose scorching hot days to do anything outdoor. But we made the most of it. The Zoo is free so it's really a great trip and since my mom and dad are near we were able to stick in a visit and break up the trip home. We dropped Jag off for a day and Grandma's and Papa's and we headed to DC.
Now, we are not city dwellers; we don't even like the city to be truthful. We enjoy our quiet life in the suburbs :) But we drove into the city not knowing where or what we were doing. We parkeda million miles 4 blocks away and walked to the zoo so besides lunch, which I intended on packing but didn't, we had a free trip!
When we got there we headed straight for the elephants because I knew they were only out for a certain time period. We saw one.
Then we tried the pandas. Nada because the new baby. The TVs weren't even showing them.
Then we saw flamingos and other birds. Lucy was wearing a toucan on her shirt so she thought it was pretty cool that we saw a real one too.
Then we had lunch because I almost ate my arm. Then my camera died. Awesome. Way to go, mom.
Then we saw gorillas, orangutans, and BIG turtles.
We saw Simba, Nala, and Simba's mom.
No tigers.
No water animals were out.
Oh, btw the giraffes all died so, sorry, Lucy that we kept saying we'd see giraffes all day and then none...
I was a little disappointed in the showing of the animals :( But we had fun together even though it was hot. and then we got a nice home-cooked meal at mom and dads on our way back down to Richmond. Lucy slept well that night - and so did her mama!!
Next up - Mark's 30th birthday trip to watch the Os play the White Sox :) Just me and him <3>3>
